Automatically Backup your device media to Google!

Backing up your photos & videos automatically to Google+

Hello there!
Want your phone to take back up of your photos and videos by its self? Google makes it easier by providing you online storage facility and android apps to access the media through phone! You can automatically back up your photos and videos to Google+ by turning on Auto Backup feature in Goggle’s Photos App. This can include photos you take with your device’s camera, photos which you download to your phone, and photos saved by other apps, like WhatsApp and Hangouts.

Sharing is Private by default
Photos and videos which are automatically backed up are private unless you choose to share them.

Turn Auto Backup on or off:

  1. Open the Photos App in your Device.
  2. Touch the menu button  and select Settings.
  3. Touch Auto Backup and switch the toggle On or Off.

Media and Storage:

Size of the media:
You can back up an unlimited number of standard size photos and videos for free (standard size means that photos are 2048px or less on the longest edge and videos are less than 15 minutes long and have maximum 1080p resolution). Auto Backup is set to back up at full size by default.

Google Drive storage quota:
If you have your back up setting set to
full size, then photos larger than 2048px and videos longer than 15 minutes or saved at a resolution higher than 1080p count against your free Google Drive storage quota. You'll see a notification. If you run out of storage and as you start approaching the free storage limit. Google will automatically switch to backing up your media at standard size.

Change how & when Auto Backup photos & videos are uploaded

After you've turned Auto Backup ON, you can manage how and when photos and videos from your device are uploaded. You can see the status of  your Auto Backup uploads by opening the Photos app.

  1. Open the Photos App.
  2. Touch the menu button select Setting > Auto Backup.
  3. From this screen you can change these settings.

Photo size

Full size is the default setting. This setting uploads your photos and videos with their original image resolutions (up to 100 MB for photos or 1080p for videos) and counts against your Google Drive storage quota, which is shown under "Full size" when you touch this setting. If you have your back up setting set to full size and you run out of storage, google will automatically switch to backing up at standard size.

Standard size photos are great for sharing on the web. If you choose this setting, your photos will be resized so that the longest edge of the photo does not exceed 2048 pixels.

Back up photos

Over Wi-Fi or mobile network uploads photos when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network or your mobile network. ( Uploading over your mobile network will use your data connection and charges from your service provider may apply).

Over Wi-Fi only uploads photos when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Back up videos

Over Wi-Fi or mobile network uploads videos when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network or your mobile network. ( Uploading over your mobile network will use your data connection and charges from your service provider may apply) .

Over Wi-Fi only uploads videos when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Very large videos will upload over Wi-Fi only.

Back up Local Folders

You can automatically back up your Android device's photo and video folders, including photos you've downloaded, screenshots you've taken, or photos saved by other apps.

Roaming

Enabling Roaming allows photos and videos to upload while you're roaming on a mobile data network. ( Uploading over your mobile network will use your data connection and charges from your service provider may apply).

While charging only

If you choose While charging only, photos and videos will be uploaded only when your device is connected to an external power source. This setting can help you manage your device's battery life when using Auto Backup.

Back up all

When you touch Back up all, photos and videos on your device will be backed up. If your settings preferences are not satisfied at the time you touch Back up all, the photos and videos will remain in the backup queue until your settings preferences are met.
For example, if you have your Auto Backup set to only backup when your device is charging and you select Back up all, your photos and videos will begin backing up only when your device is being charged.

If you sign out of the Google+ app, your backup queue is not saved. Any photos and videos that have not been backed up will only back up once you sign into the Google+ app and touch Back up all again.
